GSPK DESIGN Ltd seeks the next generation!

We’re always on the lookout for fresh engineering talent and, with that in mind, we’ve devised a competition which we hope will challenge young minds.

You would have had to be living on a different planet to not know the Tour de France is coming to North Yorkshire next year – but, if you were working for one of the teams, what would you do to give your riders an edge?

For example – Lycra and aero-dynamic helmets aside – what could you do to help keep the rider hydrated, energised, aware of the position they’re in or their performance against a set target? Or – always remembering too much weight is a definite negative – what gadget would you fit to a bike to help on those punishing mountain sections, those exhilarating downhill swoops or that last 200 metre dash for the line?

We want teams of four from secondary schools across North Yorkshire to come up with concepts for gadgets and gizmos which could help Sir Bradley Wiggins or Chris Froome win the race again.

However, it’s not just about the idea; we want to know more about the materials you would use, where you would get them, how much your prototype might cost to make and what you would sell your product for. Teams will also need to outline the potential for job creation as well as devise a name and a brand for the product.

The top four teams will be invited to present to a panel of real engineers and the team judged to have done the best job overall will win ten Raspberry Pi hand-held computers for their school and £100 in vouchers for each of the individual team members.

Sound like fun? Then why not get in touch for full details and an entry pack?
