There are signs of an increase in interest and enquiries from companies that outsource design and manufacture to the far east.
The issue seems to occur in low volume or niche manufacture, which is now ceasing to be attractive to far east volume led operations.
Issues regarding transportation costs, exchange rates, availability of parts and failure rates from recycled components has also contributed to the problem.
Although manufacturing has been one of the engines of UK growth for 2010, forecasts suggest that this might slow for 2011, although confidence appears to be high.
If you produce a niche market product, with low volumes or are considering a small scale test launch, then initial design and manufacture in the UK may well deliver you a more robust and effective solution.
